Each house represents a remarkably effective and low-cost method of preventing relapse and encouraging emotional growth. Choose to live with us at Oxford House and you’ll have a room all to yourself. Inside, there’ll be a comfortable bed, study desk and storage space for all of your things.

Show up on time for an interview by members of the house, complete an application and submit it to the house. We provide a safe, affordable living environment that is supportive to individuals in recovery from addiction. Oxford House is a concept in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. In its simplest form, an Oxford House describes a democratically run, self-supporting and drug free home. Parallel to this concept lies the organizational structure of Oxford House, Inc. This publicly supported, non-profit 5013 corporation is the umbrella organization which provides the network connecting all Oxford Houses and allocates resources to duplicate the Oxford House concept where needs arise. MORE ON STUDY METHODS Apart from the initial random assignment to each of these conditions, participants were free to engage in other recovery support services as they wished.
Each individual must be able to pay his/her share of the house expenses, which includes holding a job and/or doing service work, such as education or community service. Oxford House offers a supportive way of living and opportunities to learn skills in a clean and sober environment. These findings suggest that the Oxford House model, in comparison to those who solely attend twelve-step programs, might be more effective in empowering residents in their ongoing abstinence in a way that enhances the perception of control in their lives.

Depaul University has a team of researchers that have been studying the what is an oxford house model for more than a decade.
